The relationship between textile company Maharam and British fashion designer Paul Smith could be attributed to prolific Italian architect and designer Gio Ponti. After seeing a silk pattern designed by Ponti, Smith approached Maharam for permission to use it as a lining for his menswear jackets. Shortly after, he began using archival Maharam textiles in his accessories, and a collaboration on a new upholstery collection quickly followed. Smith’s Sequential Stripes (2017) fabric for Maharam brings new dimension to his familiar yet unique language of stripes by punctuating a worsted wool with colorful bands in varied thicknesses to create a striking banded effect. This is an authentic Paul Smith fabric produced by Maharam Design Studio. Made in U.S.A.
