Mark W. Goetz has loved product development ever since he started working in his family's plastic injection molding business. Graduating from Pratt Institute with an Industrial Design degree, he also studied at the Danish Royal Academy in Copenhagen for a semester. His first job in the field of design was for the renowned product firm Smart Design where he was involved with projects for Corning, Maxim, and Serengeti Eyewear.

His next endeavor involved designing for the exhibit firm of Ralph Appelbaum Associates, where he worked on "Color in Nature" a permanent installation in Taiwan, "Jackie Robinson, An American Journey", a traveling exhibit sponsored by Coca-Cola, and "The Early Mammals Hall", a permanent installation for The American Museum of Natural History in New York.

Goetz founded his multi-disciplinary firm,TZ Design, in 1988. He designed a wide variety of products, from children's products for the Finnish Marimekko, a line of backpacks and totebags for the New York Company Le Sportsac, to table top items for Crate & Barrel.

His first introduction to the Contract Furniture Industry was in 1988 when he designed the Washington Avenue Series for Brickel. He was involved in the development of seven products which are licensed throughout the United States and Europe. Goetz has also developed a wide range of ergonomic projects with Herman Miller.

Goetz has designed extensively for Bernhardt, starting with The American Standards Collection in 1990 and has created over 40 chairs. His pieces have been used for jobs such as the corporate headquarters of the Chicago Bulls, The Kennedy Center in Washington, the president.s office at Harvard University, and the European Congress in Brussels.
