ABOUT THE STUDIO

The Toronto Studio – our first international foray – is an anchor to the revitalized King Street West area. Bordering both the city’s entertainment and fashion districts, our light-filled Studio occupies the ground floor of a heritage building. The interior architecture includes exposed brick, original beams and high ceilings, all of which create an open, airy space for you to experience the best in modern design. The Studio is within walking distance to the Sky Dome and CN Tower, and offers a welcome respite from the pace of downtown life. Charles and Ray Eames’ vision is finally realized, 70 years later.

It’s been more than 70 years since the Eameses began experimenting with molded wood. As the designers pushed the material as far as it could go, the design process ultimately led to their Molded Plastic Chair. Now, thanks to revolutionary three-dimensional veneer-molding technology, their timeless design is also available in molded wood. And it’s only at DWR.

Join us in the Studio for a chance to be the first in Canada to get a peek at this brand new (old) design, 70 years in the making. Peter Fleming, head of the furniture program at Sheridan College will give a brief presentation on the challenges to the design from a material perspective, and how it replicates the Eameses' original intent. Drinks and appetizers from Smart Water, Peroni and Blackbird Baking Co. will be served.
