About the Studio

DWR recently opened its first Flagship Studio in the 4,000 square foot ground floor fo the SoHo building which features large storefront windows, high ceilings and an open floor plan that serves as an ideal showcase for the furniture, lighting and other modern classics. Built in 1906 as a department store warehouse, the building features a subway map embedded in the sidewalk outside the Studio's front door. In 1986, the Belgian artist and architect Francoise Schein created "Subway Map Floating on a New York Sidewalk." Inside the Studio, the subway theme continues with a large graphic of Massimo Vignelli's iconic, though short-lived, New York City Subway map from 1972. The flagship also features fixtures and other wall graphics that haven't been used in any existing DWR Studio. Proprietor Carie Scott manages the Studio with her friendly and knowledgeable staff.

EVENTS Honoring Arts & Architecture Thursday, October 30, 7–9pm Join DWR and Metropolis magazine in celebrating launch of Taschen’s limited-edition 10-box set, Arts & Architecture, 1945–54: The Complete Reprint. The journal was on the forefront of the American modern architecture movement. It helped establish the careers of Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames and Richard Neutra, among many others, and initiated the Case Study House Program. David F. Travers, A&A’s editor from 1963 to 1967, compared the seminal journal to “sunshine on West Coast architects who grew and flourished under its rays.” Come to the SoHo Studio on October 30 to be among the first to see the set, enjoy refreshments and pick up a free copy of the latest issue of Metropolis, which includes a feature story on Arts & Architecture.
