Tom Dixon taps into high-tech to create the striking Copper Shade Pendant (2006), which was inspired by his fascination with a vacuum metallization process commonly used to make sunglasses. This pendant starts as a polycarbonate ball placed in a vacuum chamber. When the air is sucked out, an electrical charge vaporizes copper foil into a mist of particles that create a 0.02-micrometer-thick mirror-finish coating. Copper Shade works well as a single pendant or clustered into a statement chandelier. Bulb (not included): LED, CFL or incandescent; E26 base; 25W max for 10-inch pendant, 60W for 17.75 inch. UL/cUL Listed. Made in Germany.
