Anglepoise

Founded 1932 (Redditch, U.K.)

British lighting brand Anglepoise had its first commercial success with the Original 1227 lamp, designed in the 1930s by automotive engineer George Carwardine, who developed the articulating task lamp by using a constant spring tension mechanism to achieve a unique balance of flexibility and stability. Early Anglepoise lamps are included in the Victoria & Albert and Design Museums in London, and the Original 1227 was among the iconic British designs featured on a series of Royal Mail stamps in 2009.
