Wood Monkey
If this Wood Monkey (1951) looks familiar, that’s because it has appeared on Danish television as a wildlife program mascot. Fame, however, has not gone to this Monkey’s head. Still very down-to-earth, Monkey is the work of Kay Bojesen, who created him using old-world techniques of Danish cabinetmaking. The Monkey is still made that way today out of teak and limba with articulating head and limbs. His hands are ready to hang on to branches, ropes or anything else you can think of, and his prankster expression says he’s up to the challenge. Kay Bojesen’s wooden animals, with their gentle expressions and round, durable bodies, have won the hearts of children and adults worldwide for more than half a century. Originally a silversmith, Kay Bojesen was a Danish designer recognized around the globe as a master in creating wooden toys. Made in Denmark.
