I don't have pictures of sexy models on my walls," says designer Sean Yoo, "I have pictures of sexy chairs from DWR catalogs." The fact that this young designer credits DWR with helping him get his education in design makes having his Matera Collection in our assortment even more special. Created exclusively for DWR, the Matera Bed with Storage (2007) doesn't scream ”storage.” To accomplish this, Yoo left space between the floor and bed to give it breathing room, not to mention plenty of space so knuckles needn't drag on the floor when accessing the drawers.
Six full-extension drawers open by pulling from underneath. Drawers have soft-closing vacuum glides, so they refuse to slam shut.
A box spring is unnecessary: the traditional 15 bed slats are increased to a more stable 20.
Finished with beveled edges, running match walnut grain, exposed slot mortise and tenon corner joints.
The Matera Collection also includes a Bed without Storage, Six Drawer Dresser, Five Drawer Dresser, Side Table and Mirror.

 Sean Yoo
Currently residing in Matera, Italy, Sean Yoo was born in Seoul and raised in Los Angeles, making him emblematic of the multi-cultural, globally fluent designers of his generation. His first career was as a city planner, but a visit to the Noguchi Museum in New York inspired him to pursue design. "I was particularly attracted to the way Noguchi applied sculptural qualities to common household objects," says Yoo. "It seemed to give meaning and purpose to otherwise meaningless objects."

"I love this bed. It was the first bed I saw, and after spending three months shopping in most all of the shops in SoHo, I came back to this. The drawers under the bed are amazing, they roll smoothly and have a spring before shutting so they don't slam. I also have the side tables & 6 drawer long dresser which are perfect for a complete bedroom set. The Sonno mattress DWR sells is by far the best - every guest & family member has loved it."
