A Quincy Jones
This is the first-ever book to be published on Archibald Quincy Jones (1913–79), a Los Angeles-based architect who reinvented the house as a way of redefining the way people lived in post-war California. His civic and university buildings and churches are quintessential examples of mid-20th century American architecture. A greenbelt planning and green design pioneer, Jones raised the level of the California tract house from a simple box to a structure of beauty integrated into the landscape. As he introduced new materials, he also initiated a new way of living within the built environment. This book documents Jones’ full career and catalogs 60 projects, illustrated with high-quality black-and-white photographs, plans and renderings by Jones himself. Author and architect Cory Buckner, who specializes in contemporary residential design and mid-century remodel projects, lovingly restored her own 1949 Jones house. Buckner then spearheaded a neighborhood preservation movement, where some homes have now been designated Historic/Cultural Monuments with the City of Los Angeles.
