Haiku poems + physical manifestation = Nambu Tekki objects; using a heating, sand-casting and glazing process perfected over four centuries, artisans of northern Japan transform local iron ore into objects, like the Crow Bottle Opener, of elemental simplicity and satisfying weightiness. A masterful application of the “urishi” glaze in the finishing imparts not only the protective and characteristic black burnish, but leaves each piece with its own unique markings: artful objects begotten through artful practices.
