Architect and designer Florence Knoll Bassett has had a profound influence on more than 50 years of buildings’ interiors. As the director of the Knoll Planning Unit, Knoll Bassett revolutionized interior space planning. Her “total design” approach embraced everything about a space, including architecture, interior design, graphics, textiles and manufacturing. She brought the same sensibilities to designing furniture, illustrated by her Florence Knoll Bench (1954). The embodiment of mid-20th century objective perfectionism, the Two Seater is sized for the end of a bed, an entryway, a dressing table, even as living room accent seating. The exposed chrome-plated steel frame is topped with individually sewn squares of full-grain, semi-aniline Spinneybeck® Volo upholstery. The KnollStudio logo and Florence Knoll’s signature are stamped on the inside of one leg. The Bench is manufactured by Knoll according to the original and exacting specifications of the designer.
