Matthew Richards was pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering when he was inspired by the work of Alexander Calder (also a mechanical engineer) and began making mobiles (2009). Mobile-making started as a hobby for him, but it wasn’t long before the powerful combination of his art and technical background led him to fashion a new career out of it – and a distinguished one at that. Richards’ mobiles were specially commissioned and installed on the movie set of Ocean’s Thirteen, as well as at Harpo Studios and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Creating these kinetic works of art satisfies both sides of Richards’ personality: artistic and technical. Made by hand in Oregon, his mobiles move freely with the slightest breeze or vibration, rotating 360 degrees. Best suited for indoor use. Keep away from children. Assembly required. Made in U.S.A.
