Designer Mika Tolvanen established his Helsinki-based design office in 2001, shortly after graduating with a master’s degree from the Royal College of Art. He started off with a two-in-one concept when designing his versatile Hideaway (2011). “The idea of Hideaway was to move away from the ordinary trash can,” explains Tolvanen. The end result is a sleek design that works equally well as a trash bin, recycling bin or laundry basket. Hideaway combines a streamlined exterior with a precisely fitted lid. When closed, the lid creates a seamless look; when open, it rests out of the way on the bin’s side. Made in China.
