Inspired by the simplicity and utility found in a pair of serving tongs, designer Peter Stathis created his Tube Top Lamp (2006). The satisfying composition features a transparent acrylic base that supports a lightweight mesh shade held in place by tension. The effect is that of a floating form over a barely visible base, tethered only by a fabric-covered cord. A full-range dimmer switch provides a range of lighting options. The Tube Top Lamp is available in small and medium, in a scale that encourages mixing sizes for an interesting display. The clear base with white shade is exclusive to DWR. Peter Stathis' work is included in the permanent collections of the Cranbrook Art Museum, the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and the MoMA in New York.
