The Photon Rug adds a twist (literally) to the iconic shag rug – each tendril is offset by a contrasting color in the center (cream for the charcoal rug, deep mustard for the cream and beige rugs), furthering its fluid, three-dimensional quality. Hand-loomed and hand-bound in India, the effect is achieved by taking high-quality wool that is wrapped around a differently colored acrylic center and then felted. It takes two to three days to produce just one rug. Photon’s high wool content means a natural resistance to dirt, as well as flame retardancy. The Photon Rug’s manufacturer is a member of Rugmark, which ensures that the Photon is manufactured in a socially responsible manner. The global nonprofit organization is fighting to end child labor and improve educational opportunities for children in India, Pakistan and Nepal.
