French designer Jean-Marie Massaud is only 44 years old, and yet he is already world renown for his furniture, industrial design and clothing projects, as well as for his work in architecture and brand development. Working from Studio Massaud, the Paris firm he founded in 2000, this designer brings a streamlined approach and sense of lightness to everything he creates, whether it is a faucet for Hansgrohe, a volcano-shaped soccer stadium in Guadalajara or the architectural identity of Lancôme boutiques. In designing his AKA (also known as a chair, 2010), Massaud took a hybrid approach to the materials, combining a light and comfortable body with four strong oak legs. “It reveals a tough character without losing its image of lightness,” said the designer.
