Merino Wool Throw
Designed by Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings for Thomas Eyck
The Dutch duo Stefan Scholten and Carole Baijings are known through¬out Europe for their vibrantly colored furniture, textiles and home accessories that play on grids and gradients. “We work more like artists,” says Baijings. “We start with materials and colors, and then try to create a shape or a design. It’s a different approach than starting with a word or a concept or an idea.” Their creations have been exhibited at museums in their native country, including the Dutch Textile Museum, and they presented their luxuriously soft Merino Wool Throw (2005) at Milan Design Week 2007. The Throw is woven at Weverij de Ploeg, which was originally founded in 1923 as a cooperative weaving company and worked with Bauhaus-trained weavers. As tantalizing as a field of tulips, the Throws are “splashes of color,” Scholten says, “and very simple products that completely change an interior.” We think you’ll agree. Made in the Netherlands.
