Parentesi Lamp
Designed by Achille Castiglioni and Pio Manzu’ for Flos
The winner of nine Compasso d’Oro awards, Achille Castiglioni was born in Milan in 1918 and graduated with a degree in architecture in 1944. After school, he began researching shapes, techniques and new materials, aimed at developing an integral design process. In 1969, he was authorized by the Ministry of Education to teach "Artistic Design for Industry" and was a professor at Turin’́s Faculty of Architecture until 1980 and then professor of "Industrial Design " in Milan until 1993. He designed his height-adjustable Parentesi Lamp with Pio Manzu’ in 1971. Designed to provide direct lighting, the bulb moves vertically up and down the floor-to-ceiling cable to suit the task at hand. Castiglioni’s work is included in the permanent collections of museums worldwide, including MoMA in New York (they have 14 pieces), Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein. Bulb: 120V 1 x 120W Medium Flood BR40.
