An upholstered version of the 20-06 Stacking Chair, this chair is equally virtuous in its strength and lightness. Weighing just seven pounds, the frame of the 20-06 Chair (2006) is crafted out of 80% recycled aluminum and has a tensile strength three times that of steel. The hand-welded seamless construction is the result of a 77-step process developed in 1944 when Emeco first manufactured its 1006 Navy® Chair for use on WWII submarines. Designed by architects Foster and Partners for the Smithsonian expansion in Washington, D.C., the inventive geometry and ecological considerations they bring to architecture are evident in the entire 20-06 table and seating series. Both the 20-06 Chair and Upholstered Chair are stackable up to 10 high, and suitable for outdoor use.
