Espen Voll and Torbjørn Anderssen began working together in 2000 and established their latest studio in 2009 after collaborating on several successful international exhibitions. With a portfolio of work that includes textiles, objects and furniture, among other things, the men believe that “young Nordic designers are ‘born’ global but at the same time have a strong cultural heritage,” and they say that this is the reason why there is so much inspiring work being created by young Scandinavian designers. “A good product builds and expands on tradition,” says Voll, “but at the same time it breaks with tradition.” In creating their Rest Sofa and Pouf (2011), the designers played with the contrast between defined areas like the back and soft areas like the cushions. The feather-filled cushions have an interior of cold foam, a material they chose because of how it rises back to shape after you sit on it. The inviting results have a warm appearance with subtle architectural lines. Cushion covers are removable for cleaning. Each ships with legs unattached; simple assembly required. Made in Slovakia.
