Christophe Pillet brings simplicity, sensuality and a light touch to his internationally renowned work with Lacoste, Catherine Malandrino, Cappellini, Emu, Renault and others. This French designer was trained in Italy, where he assisted Martine Bedin and Michele De Lucchi, and returned to France in 2003 to launch his own agency. His collaboration with Emeco began in 2009 when Pillet was commissioned by Hotel Sezz to do the interiors for its new St. Tropez location. A contemporary interpretation of beauty, timelessness and industrial heritage, the Sezz Barstool (2010) is sleek and inviting. “The look is very subtle,” says Pillet, “but it holds unbelievable quality. You don’t see the welding, the recycled aluminum, the indestructibleness – they are all real but invisible values, the hidden territory of a luxury product.” The Sezz’s engineering challenge was to build the perfect frame to fit the comfortable rounded seat. The solution is a tube design that’s bent by hand to hold the deep seat basket, and then, like all Emeco seating, is hand welded, ground and hardened. The resulting Sezz Collection, built to last lifetimes, combines Emeco’s traditional heritage with a very modern design. Made in U.S.A.
