DWR Design Studio introduces Thatch (2010), a handmade floor covering that feels wonderful underfoot. Made of soft wool, these rugs are intricately worked into a texture that’s best described as a braided knit, which gives Thatch its dense pile that is a pleasure to walk on. The hardworking Thatch is a soft substitute for sisal, and the 100% wool content gives it a natural resistance to dirt, as well as flame retardancy. This collection is made by a member of Rugmark, which ensures manufacturing in a socially responsible manner. The global nonprofit organization is fighting to end child labor and improve educational opportunities for children in India, Pakistan and Nepal. Made in India.
Three of the colors – bear, ivory and heathered grey – are made of undyed ribbons of wool in varying colors to create “heathering,” a nuanced, multidimensional effect.
The vibrant red color is hand dyed to a deep hue that we’re partial to (note the DWR logo).
