Humanscale industrial designer Stefan Spoerl partnered with Andrzej Loreth, a Swedish inventor who has
been working on efficient air purification technology for 20 years, to bring Loreth's patented technology
disposable electrostatic precipitation (DEP) to the consumer. Originally used in industrial settings, DEP
leverages high-efficiency paper filters and low voltage to eliminate the vast majority of airborne particles
wherever the technology is employed. With its small size, high particle removal efficiency, breeze-free,
ozone-free, and quiet operation, the ZON (2010) personal air purifier renders traditional room air purification
technologies obsolete by delivering pure air directly to where you breathe instead of attempting to clean the
air in an entire room. ZON's unique appearance and sustainability has earned it six design awards including
the Green GOOD Design Award in 2011. It is Energy Star Certified and 2.5 times more efficient than Energy
Star standards. Made of 89% recyclable material – including its patented, recyclable filter that can also
be vacuumed clean for reuse – ZON uses a maximum of 23 watts of power, approximately 7 watts in the
low "zone" setting and removes 99% of airborne particles, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
