Created exclusively for DWR, the Matera Queen Bed (2007) is fashioned from thick walnut from its headboard to its case frame. The solid panels on either side of the bed are elevated slightly off the bottom frame giving a feel of lightness and breathing room to the sturdy construction. Solid ash bed slats were increased in number from the traditional 15 to a more stable 20, rendering a box spring unnecessary. “I don’t have pictures of sexy models on my walls,” says Matera’s designer Sean Yoo, “I have pictures of sexy chairs from DWR catalogs.” The fact that the young designer credits DWR with helping him get his education in design makes the introduction of this collection even more special. To accomplish this, Yoo lifted the bed panels off the frame to give it breathing room, not to mention plenty of space so knuckles needn't drag on the floor when accessing the drawers. The six full-extension drawers open by pulling from underneath, and each drawer in the Collection has self and soft-closing vacuum glides that refuse to slam shut. The Zola Collection (2008) has a simple and clean aesthetic that suggests the influence of Eastern minimalism. The visual lightness is achieved by lifting the Zola Bed higher off the floor than standard platform beds: 9” legs raise it to almost 11" high. (The bed also comes with a set of 6” legs for a more traditional platform height.) The floating effect is furthered by the slim headboard that’s arched to mimic the natural curve of the spine and provide a comfortable angle to lean against. The bed has high-quality ash wood slats that lie flat across the entire width of the bed and allow air to circulate through your mattress. Rounded corners illuminate sharp edges, both physically and aesthetically. To save on packing materials, the platform ships flat and simple assembly is required. The Zola Dressers and Table echo the minimalism of the Bed with unadorned drawer fronts.

The American Modern Bed (2008) is inpired by George Nelson’s iconic design for a daybed that he created in 1948. Nelson’s work – whether designing clocks, lamps or furniture – expressed his desire to “do much more with much less.” Still true to Nelson’s straightforward design aesthetic, we’ve made updates to take advantage of today’s manufacturing techniques. This Bed has a solid maple platform and headboard, which we’ve crafted out of solid FSC-certified wood. The platform has slats to permit air circulation through the mattress, and center supports for added stability. The Bed’s canted headboard is mounted on metal brackets that provide some “give” and a short footboard (about 2") keeps the mattress in place. Made in U.S.A.

The upholstered Reve Bed (1996) brings soft texture and warm color into the bedroom. The padded, slipcovered headboard is tall and precisely angled to provide a comfortable backrest when reading or watching TV. Solid beech slats reinforced with rubber form the sturdy platform, and castors underneath the headboard allow for easy mobility. Recessed steel legs prevent midnight toe stubbing. It takes a skilled designer to make a metal bed look elegant rather than institutional, as exemplified in the Min Bed Frame (2003) by Luciano Bertoncini. The Min applies high-quality materials and expert construction to a basic slat platform, that will accommodate foam, buckwheat and coil mattresses and provide constant ventilation. The frame is made from extruded and die-cast aluminum, most visible on the snag-free rounded corners and legs that can happily be left exposed. A support bar runs down the center of the platform (excluding Twin bed) for even weight distribution. Durable wood slats are inset into the frame with rubber caps for increased flexibility. Mattresses sit directly on the slats, lying 2.5" below the frame. The platform system ships flat, but is easily assembled with only 16 screws (all hardware included). This clip-on Headboard (2008) is designed to fit the Min Bed (formerly called the Alu Bed). The translucent plexiglass was specifically chosen to coordinate with any color bed, and maintains the light, unobtrusive character of the Min Bed Collection. The single-piece construction spans the bed’s entire width, extending just slightly beyond each side, and the slightly curved shape of the Min Headboard provides a comfortable backrest for reading or watching TV. The Min Headboard is simple to attach to the Min Bed, and comes equipped with hardware and instructions.
