Created exclusively for DWR, the Matera Queen Bed (2007) is fashioned from thick walnut from its headboard to its case frame. The solid panels on either side of the bed are elevated slightly off the bottom frame giving a feel of lightness and breathing room to the sturdy construction. Solid ash bed slats were increased in number from the traditional 15 to a more stable 20, rendering a box spring unnecessary. “I don’t have pictures of sexy models on my walls,” says Matera’s designer Sean Yoo, “I have pictures of sexy chairs from DWR catalogs.” The fact that the young designer credits DWR with helping him get his education in design makes the introduction of this collection even more special. In keeping with the seven other pieces in the Collection, the Queen Bed is thoughtfully finished with beveled edges, running match walnut grain, exposed slot mortise and tenon corner joints.

"I don't have pictures of sexy models on my walls," says designer Sean Yoo, "I have pictures of sexy chairs from DWR catalogs." The fact that this young designer credits DWR with helping him get his education in design makes the introduction of his Matera Collection even more special. Created exclusively for DWR, the Matera Queen Bed with Storage (2007) doesn't scream "storage." To accomplish this, Yoo lifted the bed panels off the frame to give it breathing room, not to mention plenty of space so knuckles needn't drag on the floor when accessing the drawers. The six full-extension drawers open by pulling from underneath, and each drawer in the Collection has self and soft-closing vacuum glides that refuse to slam shut. Solid ash bed slats were increased in number from the traditional 15 to a more stable 20, rendering a box spring unnecessary. The Bed with Storage shares the clean lines of the entire Collection, which are thoughtfully finished with beveled edge and exposed slot mortise and tenon corner joints.

This is one versatile little table that will satisfy even the most radical visionary. Finished on every side (including the bottom, if you can identify it as such), the table can be positioned in any of six possible configurations. On its “side” it forms a C or reverse C, creating cavernous storage for bedtime reading. For other options, point the “legs” toward the wall to create the look of a solid block, or straight out for the feel of a floating table. The latter configuration permits full access to the back drawers of the Matera Bed with Storage, but don’t limit the Side Table to just a bedroom piece. The adaptable table can free-stand as a sofa side table, coffee table or entryway catchall. The fact that designer Sean Yoo credits DWR with helping him get his education in design makes the introduction of his Matera Collection and Side Table even more special. The clean lines are thoughtfully finished with beveled edges, running match walnut grain, exposed slot mortise and tenon corner joints.

Like the other pieces in the collection, the Matera Mirror (2007) showcases the beauty of solid walnut grain and the timelessness of simple, modern framework. Designed to adapt to your individual needs, the Mirror can be placed on the floor rest on the wall at a slight angle. At the top and bottom of the mirrored glass is a purposeful gap where it would normally meet the frame. This gives the mirror a lightness and a space for “breathing,” a design feature you will also encounter in the Matera Bed and Matera Bed with Storage. The walnut frame is thoughtfully finished with beveled edges, running match wood grain and exposed mortise and tenon joints. “I don’t have pictures of sexy models on my walls,” says Matera’s designer Sean Yoo, “I have pictures of sexy chairs from DWR catalogs.” The fact that this young designer credits DWR with helping him get his education in design makes the introduction of this collection even more special.

The Zola Collection (2008) has a simple and clean aesthetic that suggests the influence of Eastern minimalism. The visual lightness is achieved by lifting the Zola Bed higher off the floor than standard platform beds: 9” legs raise it to almost 11" high. (The bed also comes with a set of 6” legs for a more traditional platform height.) The floating effect is furthered by the slim headboard that’s arched to mimic the natural curve of the spine and provide a comfortable angle to lean against. The bed has high-quality ash wood slats that lie flat across the entire width of the bed and allow air to circulate through your mattress. Rounded corners illuminate sharp edges, both physically and aesthetically. To save on packing materials, the platform ships flat and simple assembly is required. The Zola Dressers and Table echo the minimalism of the Bed with unadorned drawer fronts.

Finger holds on the sides of the drawer provide ease of opening, and a silent vacuum-closure mechanism renders drawer-slamming impossible.
