Three simple shapes of solid walnut come together to make a sturdy geometric base for the Piana Table (1981). The large-scaled tempered-glass top creates a material contrast to the warmth and heaviness of the base. Combined, they create a striking dining surface that makes a grand statement and can be paired with chairs of virtually any style, modern or traditional. Piana’s base uses no hardware, solid walnut dowels and wenge inserts hold the crossbeam firmly in place. The .5-inch glass top has radiused corners to soften the angles. Piana can also be used for an executive desk for the modern workspace. Rubber pads on the base cushion the glass top.

Legend has it that Wilton Dinges, who founded Emeco in 1944, actually tossed a 1006 Navy Chair out the window of a six-story building. The result? A few minor scratches. Emeco's 77-step patented construction process was invented to satisfy a military need for lightweight, corrosion-resistant equipment. In the late 1990s, the Navy Chair's iconic design began catching the attention of architects and designers, initiating a new era for Emeco. Beginning with soft, recycled aluminum, 1006 Navy seating goes through a series of hand-crafted processes, including heat treatment and anodizing, to render the chair diamond-hard and virtually indestructible. Though imitations of the 1006 exist far and wide, Emeco's Navy Chair is the only one to go through this rigorous production process. Three small welds on the back of the slats are left exposed to indicate that this often-copied seating is the real thing. Specially made stainless steel foot caps are covered with a clear plastic glide to prevent scratching floors or snagging carpets. Optional seat pad available separately. Made in U.S.A.

After an eBay auction turned up a chair made by Emeco 50 years ago, the company decided to reinterpret the design. Originally made for Navy hospitals in 1951, the chair needed a few modifications. Emeco invited Adrian van Hooydonk and his team at BMW Group DesignworksUSA to join the project. In the same way that the original Mini Cooper relates the new Mini, everyone was in favor of maintaining the original 1951 Chair's simple utilitarian style and aluminum construction, but the lines and surfaces had to be reconsidered. Slightly reshaped, the new 1951 Chair (2005) has more "attitude" and can now be stacked up to 6 high (10-12 high with a dolly). New materials include durable molded ABS plastic and 80% recycled aluminum. The 1951 Collection was also expanded to include a counter stool and barstool. The 1951 in white is suitable for outdoor use. Emeco's use of post-consumer recycled aluminum makes the collection LEED compliant. Made in U.S.A.

"How light and slender can a chair be and still maintain its strength?" That was the question at the center of creating the 20-06 Chair, which was designed by Foster & Partners for the Smithsonian expansion in Washington, D.C., and built by Emeco. Foster & Partners' worldwide projects include the Hearst Headquarters in New York and 30 St. Mary Axe in London. The inventive geometry and ecological considerations they bring to architecture are also evident in the 20-06. Weighing five-and-a-half pounds, this handmade chair is crafted out of 80% recycled aluminum and has the tensile strength of 45,000 p.s.i. - three times stronger than steel. The hand-welded seamless construction is the result of a 77-step process developed in 1944 when Emeco first created its 1006 Navy® Chair for use on WWII submarines. The 20-06 is stackable up to 10 high and is suitable for outdoor use. The 20-06 Chair has an estimated 150-year lifespan; longevity that means less impact on the earth's resources. Contributes to LEED Certification Credit #4.2 Recycled Content. Made in U.S.A.

The upholstered 20-06 Counter Stool (2006) shares the same tensile strength as other aluminum Emeco seating – three times that of steel. Designed to stand alone or pull up to any counter height surface, it is the result of a collaboration between manufacturer Emeco and London architects Foster & Partners, both experts in aluminum fabrication. The Counter Stool features hand-welded construction that follows the same 77-step process developed in 1944 when Emeco first created its 1006 Navy Chair for use on WWII submarines. With its indestructible anodized finish and attached vinyl seat pad, it is suitable for light outdoor use. Like its 20-06 counterparts, the Counter Stool has an estimated 150-year lifespan – longevity that means less impact on the earth’s resources. Contributes to LEED Certification Credit #4.2 Recycled Content. Made in U.S.A.

The 20-06 Round Bar Height Table (2006), one of several Emeco seating and table options, was designed to provide a tabletop surface for the 20-06 Barstool, but it’s anonymous enough in design to work with most any barstool. The hand-welded seamless construction is the result of a 77-step process developed in 1944 when Emeco first manufactured its 1006 Navy Chair for use on WWII submarines. The Bar Height Table is part of a collection that began with the 20-06 Chair designed by architects Foster & Partners for the Smithsonian expansion in Washington, D.C. The inventive geometry and ecological considerations they bring to architecture are evident in the entire 20-06 table and seating series. With its indestructible anodized finish, it is suitable for outdoor use or anywhere moisture can collect. Like it’s 20-06 counterparts, the Round Bar Height Table has an estimated 150-year lifespan – longevity that means less impact on the earth’s resources.
