Inspired by classic mid-century hanging lights, the Funnel Pendant (2008) uses an energy-efficient halogen bulb, placing this lamp squarely in the new millennium. Finished either with brushed nickel or white powdercoat, the Funnel provides both direct and ambient light, thanks to its frosted glass diffuser. When designer Peter Bowles discovered a mold for an industrial-style light, he was inspired to recreate it, but for a more domestic setting. Although the designer of the original fixture (circa 1940) is unknown, Bowles was determined to stay true to its shape and quality, while also updating it in ways that are more eco-friendly. His factory is committed to its green practices, and in reducing the use of petrochemicals as much as they can. The lighting provided by the Titan Pendant (1995) is mostly downward focused, but there’s some up-lighting as well. A frosted diffuser allows you to enjoy the energy-savings of compact fluorescent bulbs without sacrificing the soft, warm ambient lighting you’re looking for. Designers Meda, Sarfatti and Rizzato took a look at available ceiling lamps, and saw a need for a simple, intelligent solution. Their Polished Metropoli Lamp (1992) was designed to satisfy this need – and more. The Metropoli works as either a ceiling fixture or wall sconce and suits a wide range of interiors small and large, residential and commercial. This polished version, made from a polished aluminum body and glass diffuser, can withstand damp environments with indirect moisture, making it an apt choice for the bathroom or covered outdoor space. Distilling the concept of a chandelier down to a single queue of exquisitely cut Swarovski® crystal pendants, the Cellula is dramatic without being fussy or overbearing. The design refracts the light of nine bulbs through numerous shapes and sizes of full leaded, faceted crystal. Over a century old, Swarovski is the leader in precision-cut crystal, which has a much higher refractive index than standard glass, resulting in a more sparkling illumination. The quality of light is bright and warm, with no glare, appropriate for lighting an entryway, dining table or counter space. The crystals can be arranged as desired, simply by shifting them from groove to groove along the aluminum rod. The design is anchored by a clear cord, flanked by two thin steel cables. The AJ Eklipta Lamp by Arne Jacobsen (1959) presents a versatile lighting solution that can be mounted on a wall or ceiling, indoors or out. Jacobsen created his AJ series for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, one of the world's first designer hotels and one of Jacobsen's most well-known projects, as he designed the building, its interior and the contents. These items, including furniture, textiles and lighting fixtures, shared an elegant functionalism, and the AJ Eklipta is no exception. This fixture provides soft and diffuse illumination. The construction of the triple-layer, handblown glass ensures an evenly lit surface, and a clear edge creates a halo of light around the lamp's perimeter. Eklipta lamps protrude about 4" from a wall or ceiling and can be mounted directly over a recessed 4" octagonal junction box. These UL and wet-UL listed lights are suitable for indoor and outdoor, residential or commercial use.
