In 2005, we posed a challenge to award-winning designer Jeffrey Bernett to create a recliner that didn't look like a recliner. Armed with experience designing ergonomic in-flight seating for Northwest Airlines, Bernett took us on willingly. He designed the Flight Recliner, in collaboration with Nicholas Dodziuk, to have none of the bulkiness or macho pretense of a traditional recliner. Upright, the Flight Recliner functions as a comfortable, streamlined club chair. Opened, using a patented conversion mechanism that takes only a slight, seated push to activate, it unfolds to hold the body aloft, with support from head to toe. A stainless steel sleigh base provides stable footing. The frame is protected by a lifetime warranty. Made in U.S.A.

Winner of a furniture competition at the Århus School of Architecture in Denmark in 1999, Flemming Busk’s Twilight Sleep Sofa distills the concept of a convertible couch to a simple cylinder and rectangle. A compact and nicely scaled sofa, the bolster pillow adjusts to three different positions for customized seat depths (19.5"/23"/34.75") and lumbar support. The Twilight offers further options by converting into a daybed, queen-size bed or two twin beds. To transform Twilight into a comfortable sleeping space for two, simply move the bolster out of the way and place the top cushion on the floor. The two mattresses, when pushed together are larger than a queen-size bed, but not quite as large as a king. For sheets, use two twin extra-long fitted sheets with coordinating flat sheets or one king-size flat sheet. A great small space solution, Twilight turns any room into a guest room. The slipcover is removable for cleaning and is welted at the seams with contrast piping for a clean aesthetic. Casters on the rear legs make for easy mobility. Made in Denmark.

Commonly referred to as Eiffel chairs, the Eames Molded Plastic Armchair and Side Chair (1948) were the first industrially manufactured plastic chairs. In creating these classic pieces, the Eameses honed two techniques with which they had been grappling for years: the use of a bent and welded wire base and a sculpted plastic shell seat. The results are supremely comfortable and timeless. This original is an authentic, fully licensed product of Herman Miller, Inc. Eames; is a licensed trademark of Herman Miller.

Position it vertically, so it's standing on its narrow end and it also works as a laptop stand that you can use when you¹re seated in a chair. A continuous sheet of molded birch plywood forms this bentwood table. The wood veneer or white laminate surface is durable and easy to maintain. The Mag Table offers an inexpensive yet distinctive solution for home or office; use it next to a bed or sofa, or as a compact workstation for computing.

George Nelson's Slat Bench is one of the great icons of mid-century modernism. For Herman Miller's® influential design director, utility was as important as beauty. His spare rectangular bench is proof. It serves equally well as table, platform base or seating, depending on need and situation. No wonder it's been called timeless, something this functional never dates. The slats are made of finished maple with finger-jointed legs for superior strength. We offer it in three lengths: 48", 60" and 72".

For those with a lot of books and little space to store them, the Sapien Bookcase (2003) by Bruno Rainaldi provides a unique solution by holding texts horizontally in a vertical stack. When fully loaded, the bookcase virtually disappears behind the books. Made in Italy.

The Tall Sapien’s 14 shelves can accommodate up to 70 small and large books in a very compact footprint.

The Short bookcase has 10 shelves, holding up to 50 books.

The removable shelves are a mere 2mm thick, but each can hold approximately five books, or 20 lbs.

All-metal construction and a heavy, weighted base ensure the design's strength and stability.

Muro Media Storage delivers the look and function of a wall-mounted flat panel TV, but without the hassle of hardwiring. Made from unfinished MDF, Muro is ready for paint or wallpaper. Paint this do-it-yourself version the same color as your wall for the ultimate streamlined look, or make it stand out with a different color or wallpaper. The Muro features a wall-mounted load-bearing frame, plus a structural panel with a universal system for hanging a plasma or LCD television. Between the frame and panel, there's a space that holds cables and hides them from view. Furthering the clean look of cable management are slots at the back of each 17.5" x 13.75" shelf. The Muro Media Storage system is suitable for televisions 36" (min) to 50" (max) wide, weighing up to 100 lbs. Each shelf has a weight capacity of 12 lbs. In keeping with the do-it-yourself ethic, the holes for the screws on the front of the Muro are left exposed. To achieve the effect of a solid wall (as shown), simply use standard wood putty to fill in the holes before paint or wallpaper is applied. Assembly required. Made in Italy.

The shape and functionality of Tomoko Azumi’s Tra Coatrack (2008) is informed by its material. European beech is a sustainable hardwood that has an unusual degree of flexibility and strength. Consisting of just six pieces of wood and standing in a small footprint, Tra has a compelling helix shape and can hold a surprising amount of coats, jackets, hats or scarves. The word “tra” in Italian translates to “in between,” which refers to the inner beech pieces that hold the shape together. Assembly required.

The Photon Rug adds a twist (literally) to the iconic shag rug – each tendril is offset by a contrasting color in the center (cream for the charcoal rug, deep mustard for the cream), furthering its fluid, three-dimensional quality. Hand-loomed and hand-bound in India, the effect is achieved by taking high-quality wool that is wrapped around a differently colored acrylic center and then felted. It takes two to three days to produce just one rug. Photon’s high wool content means a natural resistance to dirt, as well as flame retardancy. The Photon Rug’s manufacturer is a member of Rugmark, which ensures that the Photon is manufactured in a socially responsible manner. The global nonprofit organization is fighting to end child labor and improve educational opportunities for children in India, Pakistan and Nepal. Photon may shed and have slight inconsistencies in edging, traits that are consistent with handcraftsmanship. Made in India.
