Born in 1906 and still designing today, Eva Zeisel is continually intrigued by what she calls her "playful search for beauty." Zeisel is world renowned for her ceramics, and when she was in her early 80s, she started designing tables. The medium may have changed, but her Coffee Table (1993) is still very Zeisel with its whimsical lines and ornamental motifs. A person of delightfully defiant spirit, Zeisel was just beginning her career when she declared war on the fashionable avant-garde. "I didn't accept the purism of modern design," she says. "In my definition, if it gave beauty to the eye, it was beauty." Even when MoMA was an advocate of straight-lined Bauhaus design, Zeisel gave them curved feminine forms. The result of such an approach is a design that's truly timeless. "I always live life in the present," says Zeisel. "Eternity is only in the present." In 2005, Eva Zeisel was awarded the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Following his apprenticeship with the legendary Constantin Brancusi, sculptor Isamu Noguchi began to experiment in environmental design, theatrical sets and later, product design. Noguchi created his first furniture prototypes for Herman Miller® in 1942 and went on to work with companies such as Steuben and Zenith. The Noguchi Table (1947) conceals nothing; revealing everything about the nature of simplicity. Two simple, smoothly shaped pieces interlock to form a tripod that supports a .75" thick slab of transparent glass. Practical and beautiful, the Noguchi Table will uphold a variety of objects in a professional reception area or the home. Simple assembly required. This original is an authentic, fully licensed product of Herman Miller, Inc.

Due to the size, weight and packaging of this item, we strongly recommend our White Glove delivery service. Please review our shipping options. During checkout you will select the option that best fits your needs.

Please note: cherry finish on the Noguchi table is slightly different from the cherry finish of the Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman.

If you combined the work of I.M. Pei and Eero Saarinen, the result might very well look like the Platner Collection (1966). Warren Platner worked with both of the industrial and organic design giants before turning his attention to steel wire furniture, for which he devised the structure and production method. Requiring as many as 1,000 welds and crafted out of wire and space, the Coffee Table demonstrates Platner's belief that there is room in modernism "for the kind of decorative, gentle, graceful design that appeared in a period style like Louis XV." Constructed of metal components that are finished in bright nickel with a clear lacquer protective coating, the table features a clear plastic extrusion ring surrounding the base to protect floors and ensure a level tabletop. The tabletop is made of .4" thick tempered glass. The Platner Collection is Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certified for low-emitting products. Manufactured by Knoll® according to the original and exacting specifications of the designer. Made in Italy.

Each Table in this set of three is a different shape and different height, allowing for endless configurations. The smaller tables can be concealed under the largest and brought out and arranged when more surface space is needed. A contemporary interpretation of traditional nesting tables, this set is suitable for either residential or contract use. Felt glides protect floors. Assembly required.
George Nakashima regarded cabinetry and woodwork as a noble art form – a view evidenced in the pieces he designed for Knoll. His Splay-Leg Coffee Table (1948) exhibits his gifted sense of grain, texture and balance. The veneered walnut or hickory top has a reverse slip-matched cathedral grain, which allows the table to be placed facing either way. Mortise and tenon joints and brass hardware secure the top to the angled solid walnut legs, creating a simple, heirloom-quality modern classic. Nakashima referred to himself as a “Japanese shaker,” expressing the belief that his designs should be treated as everyday functional objects, not precious possessions. The Shaker influence can be noted in his extraordinary skill at crafting wood, a material he approached with great reverence, saying, “A tree is our most intimate contact with nature.” A signature plate on the underside of the table attests to its authenticity. This Table is manufactured by Knoll.

“Art is only art when it is synonymous with living,” said Alexander Girard, who is widely recognized for his work in textiles and furniture. The designer was true to his words when he created the Girard Coffee Table (1948) for Knoll®. The art of this coffee table is its book-matched walnut veneer tabletop, organic shape and smooth 45-degree beveled edge. The “living” part is in how the table can be positioned with either the straight or asymmetrical side toward the seating area, providing a large surface area in a relatively narrow footprint. Girard’s work has been the subject of many museum exhibitions, including a 2004 retrospective at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. Manufactured by Knoll according to the original and exacting specifications of the designer.

The Taburet M Stacking Stool is almost pure abstraction, making minimum impact on space and redefining "seat" in the simplest sense. Yet, the stool is quite substantial, offering a low, comfortable seat suited to a retail setting, showroom, gallery or reception area. The Taburet M Stacking Stool was designed by Danish craftsman/designer Jørgen Møller, who, along with Bruno Mathsson, became one of the early leading exponents of modern Danish design. Like Mathsson, Møller sought new solutions rather than drawing from tradition, and created light, minimal structures.

Using the same technology that led to the invention of their iconic molded plywood lounge chairs, the Eameses designed their Plywood Coffee Table (1946) to have a lean, shaped form that was durable yet lightweight. Its "saucer"-like top and curved legs first caught the eye of Herman Miller; design director George Nelson during a one-man furniture exhibition at the MoMA in 1946. Herman Miller has been faithfully manufacturing the table for over 50 years. Compact and lightly scaled, it is a versatile coffee table for both traditional and modern spaces. Able to single-handedly convey the spirit of Eames design with its warm, molded plywood and personable shape, it is further complemented by the Eames; Molded Plywood Lounge Chairs. Made in U.S.A.
Incorporating his signature stylized cross form, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Table (1927) expresses a clarity of form and materials that is immediately recognizable. The regal simplicity of the table's base is finely executed atop rests a 3/4" glass tabletop. The seamless, single-piece construction of the base ensures precision and durability. Originally designed for the Tugendhat House in Brno, Czechoslovakia, the table is often paired with the Barcelona Chair for their stylistic parallels. Absolute in its elegance, this classic design continues to refresh contemporary environments. The polished chrome frame is stamped with the Knoll Studio logo and the designer's signature. The Barcelona Collection is a registered trademark of Knoll, Inc. Glass top made in U.S.A. Base made in Italy.

Niels Bendtsen’s Pool Table Collection (2004) is a juxtaposition of undisturbed flat water (like a table) and man-made squares and rectangles (like a pool). Highlighting these shapes are the green edges of the thick glass and reflections in the frosted or black tabletops. Pool’s tempered glass top and sides are permanently fused at mitered corners using a UV gluing process that offers rigid strength and a clean connection. Exposed edges are polished flat, making them smooth to the touch. The top’s color is silk-screened on the bottom of the panel and then baked to give a flawless and permanent hue. A variety of sizes offer several nesting possibilities, easily arranged to fit individual needs.

Spurred by Breuer's design of a low table to accompany the Wassily Chair, the very simple, very clever multipurpose Laccio nesting tables exhibit his rationalist aesthetic and accomplished technique.
In a 1956 cover story in Time magazine, Eero Saarinen said he was designing a collection to "clear up the slum of legs in the U.S. home." Later that year, he completed his Pedestal Table and Tulip™ Chair Collection (1956) and obliterated the "slum" by creating a cast aluminum base inspired by a drop of high-viscosity liquid. This table is manufactured by Knoll® according to the original and exacting specifications of the designer. Made in Italy.

Pedestal Tables come in a variety of table top materials (veneer, marble and laminate) and base colors (black, white and platinum).

The base has an abrasion-resistant Rilsan® finish.

Each piece is stamped with the KnollStudio logo and Eero Saarinen’s signature.

Due to size, weight and fragility, the Marble Tables must ship with our White Glove delivery service.
