While most mirrors occupy a single plane of space, the Four Seasons Mirror is presented dramatically in three dimensions. Inset in a nearly 5" deep wenge-stained ash box frame, the mirror face is echoed by four smaller mirrors along the box's interior perimeter. This provides an unusual degree of visual complexity, as multiple planes of space are subtly refracted without disturbing the large, placid mirror surface. Like the other pieces in the collection, the Matera Mirror (2007) showcases the beauty of solid walnut grain and the timelessness of simple, modern framework. Designed to adapt to your individual needs, the Mirror can be placed on the floor rest on the wall at a slight angle. At the top and bottom of the mirrored glass is a purposeful gap where it would normally meet the frame. This gives the mirror a lightness and a space for “breathing,” a design feature you will also encounter in the Matera Bed and Matera Bed with Storage. The walnut frame is thoughtfully finished with beveled edges, running match wood grain and exposed mortise and tenon joints. “I don’t have pictures of sexy models on my walls,” says Matera’s designer Sean Yoo, “I have pictures of sexy chairs from DWR catalogs.” The fact that this young designer credits DWR with helping him get his education in design makes the introduction of this collection even more special.
