Since the 1980s, Nani Marquina has been one of the leading pioneers of modern rug design, bringing her superb sense of color and texture, along with an engaging aesthetic and warmth, to floor coverings. Her Barcelona-based firm produces her own works and those of designers like Milton Glaser and Renske Papavoine. In 2005, Marquina was honored with the National Design Award, one of the highest honors granted to designers by the Ministry of Industry in Spain. Her Medina Rug (2012) consists of handspun Afghan wool that’s woven using a classical interpretation of the kilim technique, featuring a banded pattern in cool, neutral colors that complement a wide range of indoor living spaces. Together with the nonprofit Care & Fair, Nani Marquina is fighting against illegal child labor in the manufacturing of carpets. Made in Pakistan.
