In Danish, the function of opening and closing is called vipp, which is also the name of a design company that’s been producing iconic pedal bins since 1939. The story begins with Holger Nielsen, who made a bin for his wife’s hair salon. Everyone who used the eminently useful bin praised its aesthetics and functionality, and Nielsen was inundated with requests. Now at the helm of this family-run business is Nielsen’s daughter, Jette Egelund, but little else has changed. “Good design never goes out of fashion,” said Nielsen, whose original Vipp Trash Bin is now in the permanent collection at MoMA. The Vipp logo is engraved on each Bin, verifying its authenticity. Made in Latvia.
- Each bin is hand-assembled, ensuring quality that lasts.
- A removable inner bin makes changing out the bags easy, and a roll of biodegradable liners is included.
