The Maharam Design Studio specializes in the design and development of textiles for commercial and residential interiors. Balancing an appreciation of history with a focus on aesthetic and industrial innovation, Maharam’s textiles are in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, Cooper Hewitt and MoMA, among others. Woven in Scotland, where fine wool products have been made for centuries, Wool Striae (2013) comprises heathered spun yarns of variable thickness in a plain weave, steam-treated by perforated rollers that relax the fabric and draw the yarns closer, resulting in dense, smooth construction.
