Rack ‘em —
Marc Newson believes there can be beauty -- and even playfulness -- in the most utilitarian of objects. Case in point is his dish-drying rack. It not only handles all sizes of tableware with ease, but also brings a jolt of joy to after-meal cleanup.

Drip dry
Can doing the dishes be fun? The Dish Doctor (1998) does its best to make it so. The colorful, self-contained draining rack is shaped like a ship, with two chimney-like holders for cutlery. Rows of round-tipped prongs cover the rack’s drying surface. These polyethylene blades are strong enough to hold basting pans in place, but also supple enough to coddle champagne flutes. After everything has dried, remove the rack’s bottom to pour out any collected water. Made in Italy.
