Classical French inspiration

Inspired by the furniture of Versailles, the Kong Collection (2002) was created for a Chinese restaurant in Paris. It’s handcrafted in Pennsylvania using the same 77-step process Emeco first developed for its Navy Chair. The shape of Kong recalls more delicate French designs, but the manufacturing gives it tremendous durability. A proprietary heat treatment makes the aluminum three times stronger than steel, and Kong is tested to withstand 1,700 pounds of weight. Made in U.S.A.

Philippe Starck

School dropout Philippe Starck jump-started his career by designing two nightclub interiors in Paris in the 1970s. The iconoclast designer went on to define a similarly hedonistic style of design in the 1980s and 90s. His interiors and products have sensual, appealing forms suggestive of character or personal identity, and Starck often conferred upon them clever, poetic or whimsical names.
