Details
Architect Eero Saarinen was a genius at creating expressive sculptural forms. From his TWA Terminal (now the TWA Hotel) at New York’s JFK Airport to the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, there’s a magic in everything he created. The Saarinen Tulip Armchair (1956) began with his observation that “the underside of typical tables and chairs makes a confusing, unrestful world.” Featuring a swivel seat, this chair stands on a gracefully shaped cast-aluminum base inspired by a drop of high-viscosity liquid. Made in Italy.

Eero Saarinen
“The purpose of architecture is to shelter and enhance man’s life on earth and to fulfill his belief in the nobility of his existence,” said Eero Saarinen in 1959. Saarinen’s architectural legacy communicates this sentiment of giddy potential and unfettered optimism in post-war America seen in iconic projects like the Gateway Arch in St. Louis and in his sculptural furniture designed for Knoll.
