When asked where she’d most like to see her rugs, Angela Adams replied, “Public schools, even if they were on the walls. My hope is the children would get inspired and realize that you can take simple doodles and create a whole language and career out of it.” Adams’ “language” echoes the natural beauty of the Maine coastline, where the designer grew up and still lives. Within her doodles are images inspired by old boathouses with freshly painted lobster buoys hanging on clotheslines over piles of multicolored ropes. Adams sees these scenes every day as she walks next to the Atlantic Ocean on her way to and from work. Her palette, she says, changes every hour as fog and tides ebb and flow. The tight community in which Adams lives also inspires her work, and her indoor-outdoor Arlo Rug (2013) is named for a Beagle she knows who, like this rug, is “understated, minimal and confident.” Made of UV-stable polypropylene, the Arlo Rug will stand up to sunlight, stains, moisture and mildew. A rug pad is recommended to keep the rug in place; an outdoor rug pad will help the rug dry quickly when used outside. Made in Belgium.
