Designed by Nendo for Emeco
Founded by architect Oki Sato in 2002, Nendo is a Tokyo-based multidisciplinary studio that specializes in architecture, interiors, furniture, industrial products and graphic design. Known for his prolific and diverse work, Sato was named designer of the year in 2012 by both Wallpaper and Elle Décor magazines. During an interview with The Wall Street Journal, he shed some light on the studio itself: “Nendo means ‘playdough,’ almost – it’s about mixing different colors and creating different shapes. It’s the flexibility of designing things.” That approach was certainly key to the creation of the Su Counter Stool (2014), as was the Japanese concept of su, which translates to “simple, plain and minimal.” An engaging mix of shapes and materials, the Su Stool celebrates the eco-friendly design, deft engineering and strength for which all Emeco products are known. “The 1006 Navy Chair has always been ‘the chair,’ and it’s been an honor to work with Emeco to create Su,” Sato says. “For us, it is ‘the stool.’” The seat does not swivel. Made in U.S.A.
