A graduate of Duke University, Antares Yee is creative director of Sun at Six, a Brooklyn-based design studio interested in how spaces affect our everyday choices and interactions. For the Rise Bookstand (2017), Lee set out to create a piece to emphasize lower room perspectives. Handcrafted from solid black walnut, Rise’s modular design allows for several to be joined together, making it ideal for storing books, records, and more on the floor or along the top of a table. Made in China.

Sun at Six Design Studio

Established in 2017, Sun at Six is a family-run design studio drawing from generations of experience. Like their mother, the Yee siblings aim to preserve classic Chinese joinery, a fading artform and system of intricate, interwoven joints that allows solid wood furniture to be handcrafted without the use of screws or nails. Their work celebrates this ancient technique in a modern context.
