Details

With everything he created, Danish designer Børge Mogensen employed what he called the “workshop” method, by which he meant making furniture that was well-crafted and utilitarian. A result of this approach is the Asserbo Bench (1961), which he designed for his own vacation home in Asserbo, Denmark. Made of solid, dark-oiled eucalyptus with visible brushed brass screws adding a touch of quiet elegance, this bench showcases Mogensen’s belief that when you use beautiful materials, the need for decorative embellishments is unnecessary. Made in Vietnam.
  • Available with or without a backrest.
  • Solid eucalyptus, a hard wood known for its subtle woodgrain and scarcity of knots.
  • The wood comes from sustainably forested, fast-growing eucalyptus trees.
  • Visible brass screw hardware.
  • Soft rounded edges warm this Shaker-like design.
  • Seat cushion available, sold separately.

Børge Mogensen

Børge Mogensen studied under and worked for Kaare Klint, the father of Danish modern design, and later was his teaching assistant at the Royal Academy. Klint’s emphasis on human scale, excellent materials, functionalism and craftsmanship influenced Mogensen, though he adopted an embrace of mass production and a hellbent calling to lighten the heavy Danish furniture of the past.
