Brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec founded their own design firm in 1999, where they work on everything from architectural projects to utilitarian items such as furniture, tableware and home accessories. The brothers are primarily focused on and dedicated to the organization of interior spaces, and they believe that “a designer should be able to observe and to understand the context,” says Ronan. Their minimal yet durable Steelwood Shelving (2009) is constructed of an interesting combination of wood and steel, which they describe as “stable and democratic, universal and long-lasting.”
