The Community Tray (2019), inspired by Shaker boxes, is carefully handcrafted from sustainably harvested white oak selected for both strength and fiber length, deftly joined by recyclable aluminum links. For this tray, “I wanted to build upon existing Appalachian traditions, but also Shaker traditions, which have a place in Appalachian history,” explains designer Stephen Burks, “while also thinking about materials that could be harvested from the college forest.” Use it for serving drinks and snacks. Full proceeds from all sales benefit Berea College.
