The story of Vipp’s renowned Pedal Bin (1939) is not one of overnight success. Originally created by Danish metalworker Holger Nielsen for his wife’s salon, the bin’s smoothly silent pedal lid and durable yet appealing construction drew in customers; by the 1950s, it was a fixture in offices throughout Denmark. When Nielsen’s daughter, Jette Egelund, took control of the company in 1992, she set out to bring the Pedal Bin to the rest of the world, eventually entering the Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection in 2009. A few modifications aside, the design’s much imitated features remain. Made in Latvia.
