The Emmy Collection
The Emmy Collection, created exclusively for Design Within Reach in 2019 by Brooklyn-based design studio Egg Collective, is an exemplar of contemporary modern design, invoking design principles from the mid-century and the current day.
Egg Collective – a trio of designers Stephanie Beamer, Crystal Ellis, and Hillary Petrie – developed the Emmy Collection as a series of sculptural, heirloom-quality pieces anchored by clean lines, careful construction, and thoughtful tailoring. The Emmy Collection includes sofas and sectionals, a chaise, an armchair, an ottoman, and a bed, all featuring the same curved back and exposed wood frames, with finishes available in either oak or walnut. Each piece in the Emmy Collection is available in dozens of upholstery materials in dozens of colors. For a more traditional mid-century modern sofa, pair brown leather upholstery with a walnut frame; for a more playful contemporary sofa, choose a colorful bouclé Flamiber fabric and an oak frame.
Expanding the Emmy Collection into the bedroom, the Emmy Bed (2023) translates the collection’s signature curves and craftsmanship into a fully upholstered platform bed. The winged headboard, which bends gently around the top of the bed, is a standout feature, cozy yet sophisticated. Available in most of the same fabric or leather upholstery options as the other Emmy pieces, the Emmy Bed sits low on solid oak or walnut wood legs. With Emmy, you can outfit your entire home with sensible modernity.
Designing Emmy
For Egg Collective, furniture design is deeply personal – not only do their designs draw heavily upon their background in architecture (they met studying architecture at Washington University in St. Louis), but also their personal lives; many of their pieces are inspired by – and share names with – people dear to the designers. The Emmy Collection owes its influence and name to Stephanie Beamer’s cousin Mary Elizabeth, who was named after her grandmother and nicknamed Emmy.
Egg Collective’s commitment to craftsmanship is evident in every detail. Their pieces’ durable interior frames are steel-reinforced plywood, while the exterior frame and legs are made from solid oak or walnut, ensuring longevity. Viewed from the front, side, or back, Emmy silhouettes are consistently captivating.
