Kai Avent-deLeon, owner of concept shop Sincerely, Tommy, as well as co-founder of Building Black Bed-Stuy, hones in on creativity, craft, and community in her eclectic, thoughtfully curated Brooklyn home.
On mindful creativity – and creating a sanctuary
“Now is an opportunity to be a lot more intentional with your creativity and craft. For the first month of quarantine, I was either painting or making something with my hands every day, especially after I put my son to sleep. It was just very therapeutic.
I consider my home my sanctuary. I'm always just looking at it from that perspective – what makes this space actually feel like a home? What makes it feel comfortable? I also really love having pieces that remind me of all of the countries I've traveled to.”
On community
"Building Black Bed-Stuy is an organization that finds ways to support local businesses financially. I had this idea to build more economic independence within the Black community. No one understands the needs of our community more than those who live here.”
