Raising the bar

“The role of the designer is that of a very good, thoughtful host anticipating the needs of his guests,” said Charles Eames, and it’s in that spirit that the Eames Molded Shell Collection (1950) was expanded in 2015 to include a counter stool and barstool. This collection was originally designed on the principle of adaptability, offering a breadth of options to serve a wide variety of applications and environments. Over time, its composition evolved, making it a fascinating study of our shifting manufacturing capabilities and ways of living. Nearly seven decades have passed since the Eames Molded Shell Collection was first designed, yet it continues to be relevant today. Can you imagine a more thoughtful host? This is an authentic Eames Stool by Herman Miller. Made in U.S.A.

Providing just the right amount of give, this authentic Eames Molded Shell Stool has a deep seat pocket and waterfall seat edge to reduce pressure on the backs of thighs. The Plastic Stool is crafted of 100% recyclable polypropylene, and has a pleasant matte texture. The Fiberglass Stool is made of 99% recyclable materials, has an iconic variegated surface - true to the original 1950 design - and is covered by Herman Miller’s take-back program for environmentally sound recycling. The Wood Stool was made possible by revolutionary 3-D molding technology, resulting in an elegant yet strong and durable beautiful wood shell.

Charles and Ray Eames

Charles and Ray Eames

Design is for living. That maxim shaped a widespread shift in design during the 1940s and '50s. It was a revolution of form, an exciting visual language that signaled a new age and a fresh start – and two of its prime movers were Charles and Ray Eames. This husband-and-wife team's unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Sleek and simple. Beautifully functional.

Care & Maintenance

With regular care and maintenance, your Herman Miller product will provide many years of superior performance and satisfaction. To maintain quality, please follow the cleaning procedures outlined here.

The instructions for the care and maintenance of Herman Miller products are provided to you as a service. No warranty is implied since results may vary.

Chrome

For normal cleaning, wet cheesecloth in a nonabrasive cleaner, like liquid dish soap, and rub the chrome component lightly until the original luster reappears. Dry the component with a soft cloth to remove any soap residue.

Coated Metal

For normal cleaning, wash coated metal surfaces with a soft cloth soaked in detergent and warm water; rinse thoroughly and dry. Remove scuff marks from low-gloss coatings with pre-softened paste wax, following the manufacturer's instructions. Remove scuff marks and scratches from high-gloss coatings using automotive polishing compounds, either liquid or paste. After polishing, apply a pre-softened automotive paste wax to restore original sheen. For assistance in determining the appropriate color and gloss for Herman Miller touch-up paint, contact your Herman Miller Customer Service Representative.

Plastic

For normal cleaning, wash plastic surfaces with a soft cloth soaked in mild detergent and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasive kitchen cleaners.

For normal cleaning, dust furniture daily with a slightly damp, soft cloth. Wipe dry with a dry, soft cloth in the direction of the wood grain. Once a month, clean the surface with a soft cloth dampened with a quality cleaner formulated for wood furniture. Wipe the surface in the direction of the wood grain to remove dirt and fingerprints. Wipe dry with a clean, dry cloth. Twice a year, apply a good quality emulsion wax to the finish with a soft cloth. Emulsion wax is clear and prevents fingerprints.

For minor repair of water rings, stains, and scratches, rub the surface lightly in the direction of the wood grain using No. 000 steel wool. Apply a scratch-removing polish with a color and value that simulate the veneer. If the scratches are deep, consult a professional furniture refinisher.

Fell apart within a week
We received the product on Monday and by Friday the edging had come off on 2 of 4. By the following week, the edging on the 3rd and the glides on the 4th. Edging is not stitched on, but uses adhesive - which seems like a cop out.
