Modern Living — In the 1950s, the Eames molded shell changed everything about what a chair could be - sculptural, practical, and mass-produced. Their signature design provides just the right amount of give, with a deep seat pocket and waterfall seat edge to reduce pressure on the backs of thighs. Now fabricated of recyclable polypropylene, this staple of modern living fits every body and any space.

Details

Charles and Ray Eames adapted molding techniques developed during World War II to produce their classic shell chair's simple, gracious form. In 2001, Herman Miller reintroduced the original Eames Molded Plastic Chair (1950), and the collection was expanded again in 2015 to include a counter stool and barstool. Originally designed in fiberglass, this timeless collection is now produced in a durable, 100 percent recyclable polypropylene. Featuring a subtle matte texture, it’s available in a variety of shell colors, upholstery options, and base finishes.

Charles and Ray Eames

Charles and Ray Eames

Design is for living. That maxim shaped a widespread shift in design during the 1940s and '50s. It was a revolution of form, an exciting visual language that signaled a new age and a fresh start – and two of its prime movers were Charles and Ray Eames. This husband-and-wife team's unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Sleek and simple. Beautifully functional.
