Details
George Nelson began with the base when designing his Swag Leg Armchair (1958). Insisting on machine-formed metal legs, he discovered a solution in swaging, a method of using pressure to taper and curve metal tubing. Separate shells for the seat and back allow the chair to flex with the occupant and provide comfortable air circulation. This is an authentic Nelson product by Herman Miller.

George Nelson
Possessing one of the most inventive minds of the 20th century, George Nelson was the rare person who can envision what isn’t there yet. Nelson felt that designers must be “aware of the consequences of their actions on people and society and thus cultivate a broad base of knowledge and understanding.”
