For its 70th anniversary, Arne Jacobsen’s Series 7™ Chair (1955) is reimagined in full-grain Italian leather – a softer take on the beloved plywood chair. Molded from nine layers of veneer, its sculptural form is remarkably strong and flexible within a slender profile. Slim steel-tubed legs accentuate the chair’s organic curves while allowing easy stacking and arrangement. Jacobsen’s design embodies the enduring principles of Scandinavian modernism – clarity, material honesty, and timeless versatility – ensuring the Series 7 remains as relevant today as when it was first introduced.

Laminated, pressure moulded veneer shell: two outer layers made from different wood types; 7 inner layers made of beech.
Polyurethane lacquer coating, which prevents the emission of formaldehyde.
Upholstery styles are padded with polyurethane (PUR) foam.
Chromed or powder-coated steel base using trivalent chromium (Cr3) and hexavalent chromium (Cr6) for chromium plating.

Arne Jacobsen

Arne Jacobsen began training as a mason before studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where he won a silver medal for a chair that was exhibited at the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs. Jacobsen’s work remains appealing and fresh today, combining free-form shapes with the traditional attributes of Scandinavian design, material and structural integrity.
