Jean Prouvé's EM Table (1950) exhibits a dynamic relationship between the base and tabletop. Made of sheet metal, each tapered leg is turned out and angled on a diagonal slant to distribute the downward flow of energy on the table, making an incredibly sturdy surface for working or dining. The tabletop is finished in smooth oak and lends a warm counterpoint to the table's mechanical efficiency. Reproduced to exacting standards by Vitra. Made in Germany.
  • Engineered base makes for sturdy dining or work surface.
  • Metal legs and wooden top lend a pleasing contrast.
  • Midcentury classic by legendary designer.

Jean Prouvé

“Never design anything that cannot be made,” Jean Prouvé once said. His practical body of work ranged from letter openers to doorknobs, furniture to modularly constructed buildings. Prouvé always regarded himself as more of an engineer, or “constructor,” than a designer. He never designed for the sake of form alone, concentrating instead on the essence of materials, connections, and production.
